Special Programs
Araluen provides a wide range of specialist programs that cater for different abilities and interests.
In addition to these programs, Araluen offers pastoral care and counselling, religious education sessions and Christmas celebrations, a Parent Room program, a program for students with disabilities, peer mediation, special assistance support groups, Ramahyuck Aboriginal Co Op student bus, a Safety House program and liaison with an after school care program at a neighbouring school.
Plans for the appointment of a school chaplain in 2008 are well under way.
     Our programs cater for a wide range of interests and abilities:
  • Araluen has been involved in the Innovations and Excellence Program. From 2003 the Victorian government has funded clusters of schools to develop programs of innovation that will contribute to sustainable, systemic change in the middle years of schooling.

  • Educational Enrichment activities that may include Reading Recovery,
    Parent Information Sessions, Tournament of Minds, Perceptual Motor Program, Special Needs program for extra help or extension activities.
  • Social Service including student raised funds to support identified charities
    and Meals on Wheels participation.
  • Leadership programs including Junior School Council, Peer Mediation,
    buddy system, house sport system and cross age tutoring.
  • Sport and Leisure including coaching and team participation in basketball,
    netball, football, swimming, athletics, T-ball, volleyball and tennis.
  • Cultural and Artistic including school choir; recorder and percussion
    Groups, visiting Theatre Groups, performers and guest speakers, artists and
    craft persons, art displays and competitions and Instrumental Music Tuition in
