The
Araluen School Community is made up of parents, students and
school staff. The Parents Club and the School Council are
two important groups within the school community that work
together to bring about the best eduacational outcomes for
Araluen students. Araluen, the family school, encourages
the active participation of all parents in their child's eduation
wherever possible.
The Parents
As parents, your participation in and contribution to the
life of the school is vital. At Araluen, parent participation
takes many different forms. Some parents assist in the classroom
- with reading and other assistance to classroom teachers,
Perceptual Motor Program, cooking, sport, swimming, to name
just a few areas. Other people are able to assist at working
bees, in the library, on camps and excursions or in the preparation
and repair of materials and equipment. Learning is a partnership
between home and school and it is most important that your
child sees the value that you place on this partnership.

The
Children
The sooner we know about any problem or concern that your
child or you are having at school, the sooner we can take
steps to address it. Never be afraid to raise an issue no
matter how small or insignificant you believe it to be.
A great deal of consideration is given to the formation of
classes or learning group that will enhance learning opportunities
for all students. Parent input is welcome towards the end
of each year to enable the best groupings to be made.
The
Staff
The number of children attending the school and the School
Global Budget allocation determines the number of staff.
We currently have an additional Special Needs staffing component
and a LOTE (Japanese) allocation. The school also has the
services of a full-time Administrative Officer and Integration
Aides. District Support Services are also located here.
School
Council
The School Council, in consultation with the Principal,
staff and wider school community decides school policy,
prepares and oversees the annual program budget, organises
fund-raising activities and maintains the buildings and
grounds.
The
composition of the council at this school is:
- Seven
( 7 ) parent representatives elected by the school community.
- Three
( 3 ) Department of Education employees elected by the
school community.
- The
Principal
- One
co-opted member. A total of 12 members. Elected members
serve a 2-year term.
Elections are held in March each year at the Annual Reporting
Meeting and publicised through school newsletters. The
names of all members of the School Council will be published
each year following the elections. Parents should feel
free to contact these representatives if there is a matter
of concern or for further information.
Parent's
Club
This body of voluntary workers provides the school with
valuable assistance. They are support the school and make
the environment a better place for the children. The executive
is always looking for new members to carry on the work started.
The club provides you with an opportunity to meet parents
interested in their school and children. Your attendance
would be most welcome and appreciated. Meetings are held
monthly. Over the past couple of years, Parent Club fundraising
has seen all classrooms fitted with air conditioners, the
building in of the west end breezeway and the construction
of a new Parent Club kitchen.
